Official websites

The Hartlepool United Official Website

All the official league club sites are now part of a network, and you have to register to use it. On payment of an annual fee, you can subscribe to "Pools World", which gives you extra content. It has all the usual club-site stuff, and is updated evey day, even if much of it is advertising (especially for betting) masquerading as news.

The Hartlepool Mail

The staid old Mail went all brash and downmarket a few years ago, and their website is now pretty good, but the daily coverage of Pools rarely adds anything to what's on the official website.

The Northern Echo

Similar Pools coverage as the Mail. The good news is that its Sports Editor is a Poolie. the bad news is that it's based in Darlington.

i.c. Teesside

The joint site of the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette, Newcastle Evening Chronicle, Sunday Sun and Newcastle Journal often has several reports on the same Pools news item, although obviously not in the same depth as the Mail or Echo.

BBC Pools page

The gigantic BBC website even has a Pools page, with news, match reports, tables etc., and an online equivalent of what Ceefax offers.

Unofficial Pools Websites

These are generally run by Poolies who maintain them for the love of it.

The Poolie Bunker

is one of the two most popular message boards: It tends to have less rival fans popping up (other than by invitation), and consequently debate is less likely to degenerate into mindless abuse.

Never say Die (formerly"In the 'Net")

was a fans' site that went commercial, becoming part of the Rivals network of commercially supported sites which are big, and active. Its message board is easier for rival fans to find than The Bunker, which doesn't always help the level of debate.

Pools Online

is another networked site, similar to the Rivals one. You'll have to decide for yourself if it's better or not.

Hartlepool United Mad

is likewise yet another networked site, similar to the previous two.

In the Mad Crowd

A gem of a Pools website with lots of stuff about Pools players old and new. If you ever need to find out who Tommy McGuigan was signed from, what he looked like, and how many goals he scored in each of his 8 seasons at the Vic, this is the site for you.

Frank Reid's Photos site

is another fan's independent site, but as the Hartlepool Mail's main Pools photographer he gets to show the pics that the Mail doesn't use. Changes every week, and well worth a regular look.

Other Websites

- not local but may be of interest

The Football Ground Guide

is really useful for finding out how to get there, where to park, drink etc., and even shows you pics of the ground, and warns you about uncovered areas.

Football 365 Stats

All the permutations you could want for how any team is doing in any week. If you choose the right permutation, Pools can be top of the league at something even when they're struggling.
